Just thought I would give all those folks out there that have nothing better to do with their lives than bash Microsoft something to talk about...

Rumor has is that Microsoft is planning to pull all of it's patents in relationship to Open GL and begin Charging end users licencing fees. Each time you start up windows it'll clock how much you are using open GL and automatically withdraw money from your bank account. Microsoft has promised to give discounts to heavy users...That's the rumor I'm starting and I'm sticking with it.

P.S. It's rumored that Bill Gates is behind the recent drive by the Bush administration to conquer Iraq. According to a recent interview Bill Gates was quoted as saying "The Middle East is yet an untapped resource for Microsoft products distribution". Plans are in the works for a Bagdad Campus in a simular design as the Redmond campus, with it's orientation of course towards Redmond, I mean Mecca...Oh the same difference....:D

Oouch!

But then again, I can see why more and more 3d design and animation companies are using Linux systems which support opengl fully.

Microsoft stopped shipping opengl with windows after winnt4.0. All the card manufacturers these days have to make their own opengl icd anyways(nt4 came with minigl drivers). So it's really no big deal since M$ turned their back on opengl a long ago. It is companies like ATI, 3dlabs and Nvidia that make opengl available, not M$. No big loss.

mmm....i like a few things about directx...mainly it's object oriented nature as well as ability to tell the user which hardware is available. the whole windows only thing kinda kills it for me though....yay openGL!

Good decision for MS! They can't use OpenGL with healthy anyway!

Beaker,
this means any developer can't get any SDK or microcode detail which is connected to OpenGL interpreters in Windows software layers. I think this is big loss!
