View Full Version : Chipped Paint
sonofmickel 03-30-2007, 08:11 PM Does anyone have a resource or material that I can reverse engineer? I am trying to make a chipped auto type paint. I am just having a hard time wrapping my head around this. I tried a search but all that comes up are threads that say "why not try something like chipped paint on your model". A simple tutorial would be great.
Thanks

Look up: SLA 2.5 >>> Layered
These can be reproduced using fusion, etc
use a rust shader in conjunction with the paint

Experiment with using the alpha channel>noise and then copy that into the bump channel also. Then stack that on another material on the object.
Chipped paint was the first thing I ever tried to do in Bodypaint. The prescription is similar to the above except that you can pack it all into a multi-channel brush. I found that using specular color as a grey scale provided a way to control specularity so that chips of glossy paint would stand out on exposed (matte) wood.
The project I'm describing is over here.

This is one of the first things I did in Cinema about 4 years ago but I'm still pround of it. The horse is, in fact, named "Ol' Paint".
