View Full Version : Maya: Shortage of Expressions ???
Abominable 03-07-2003, 06:01 AM Ahhh man, I have a question for a Maya expert tonite......
When creating an expression has, anyone ever ran out space in the expression editor when they come to a point where Maya won't accept anymore lines/text ? If you have, was there a way around it somehow or is that the end of all?
Thanks for the help guys.

Use a text editor for your expressions. Maya allows you to pick what you want to use as your expression editor in the preferences.

you may find breaking up large expression makes for increased speed.

beaker: Thanks for the tip, didnt know that was in the prefs. I always saw that drop down in the expression editor, but it never seemed to do anything.
I was using a text editor to write my expression but when I copy and paste it into the expression editor, the expression editor would only accept so much of it and cut it short due to lack of space somehow. I'll try to break it up like wrend was saying.
PS: here's a quote from the maya docs...heh:
The expression text field expands as you type text, so you can write expressions of unlimited length.
Unlimited seems to be fairly limited.

there is a difference between the script editor and the expression editor i think..
the script editor is limited in length.
to run larger scripts you can still source them in there..
only copy/paste does not work
cheers
