Hi everyone! Just need a bit off help with this one. I just want to find out if it is possible to do a dawn-to-dusk animation using vray physical camera with a combination of vray sun/sky...WITHOUT getting the chronic flicker that we are getting?

So far, we have tried rendering with a combination of:

- irr (P), Lcache (S)
- Lcache (P), Lcache (S)
- QMC (P), Lcache (S)

Now, we're just trying to find out, whether we can use "multiframe incremental" in irradience map and "fly through" in lightcache. i dont think its possible as we have an animated light. We did try using multiframe incremental and it didnt flicker, however we're not too sure if we'll get an incorrect lighting solution

Vray settings currently are:
exponential lighting with dark multipler = 15, light multiplier = 5 (We need it cause otherwise shadows are too dark for a brightly lit exterior)

Look, sorry that i cant give too much more info. its just driving us mad that we have spent days on this and still unsuccessful. Cant post any imaged due to copyright im afraid.

Using max8 with vray 1.5 rc2.

If anyone knows of anyway to do this that has been successful, please let me know.

Cheers;

QMC/QMC with 1 subdiv, and as many secondary bounces as you feel are necessary. Then set the image sampler to adaptive QMC, and control the sampling quality with the noise threshold value. 0.001 gives very clean results, 0.01 is still a bit grainy. Something in between should suit you well. It will probably be fairly slow, but it will produce a result where the only flicker you see is in the form of a slight grain in the image.

Well, its a bit hard to understand what solution you are really looking for. But in this case if have IRR Map and Light Cache setup corectly, theoreticly you should not run into any problems. I did aimations from dusk till dawn, and i never had any problems with it. But, having such high humbers for Color Mapping, really doesnt make no sense. Its all about your lighting set up, if you dont know how to proportionally set it up, it will be hard to get nice shadows, well unless you know how to increase contrast in after effects.

When you set up Multicrimental in IRR, dont forget Flythrough in Light Cache also and you dont have to render it every 1st frame, you can do it every 10th or so.

Good luck,

Hey guys, thanks for your imput. We decided to can the idea as it was impossible for us to meet our deadline. 750 frames at 20 min per frame, and they wanted in the next day. :sad:

Gave them something else instead and they loved it anyway.

We'll have to try again soon.
