Hi all,
I'm trying to figure out all the things that were easy to do with premiere on after effects so that I dont have to use premiere again:
(1) how do you slice an image sequence in after effects?
(2)how do you render a movie with keeping a smooth framerate? when I render the same sequence with premiere and after effects I get this low framerate result with after effects.
(3)when editing audio, how can you get it to hear the audio while draggin the time slider. In macromedia flash it was easy you just had to change it to stream. do you guys know how to do it with after effects?
(4)and finally, when I place an image sequence right next to another I dont get that snappin that I usally get with premiere. how can i get my sequence to snap right next to my previous one?

thanks,
any help on any of those is greatly appreciated,

-Dan

how do you slice an image sequence in after effects?
Layer-Slice Layer or Crtl+Shift+D.

how do you render a movie with keeping a smooth framerate? when I render the same sequence with premiere and after effects I get this low framerate result with after effects.Define 'smooth' and 'low'.

when editing audio, how can you get it to hear the audio while draggin the time slider. In macromedia flash it was easy you just had to change it to stream. do you guys know how to do it with after effects? You can hear audio when prerendering to RAM with 0 on the NumPad or delete on the NumPad. No, no actual scrubbing.

and finally, when I place an image sequence right next to another I dont get that snappin that I usally get with premiere. how can i get my sequence to snap right next to my previous one?Hold Shift while dragging.

it's possible to scrub audio by holding down "cmd" (mac) or "strg" (pc) while dragging the timeslider.

2) make sure to use make movie. If you play that back and it stutters, your computer probably can't handle the datarate.. Try rerendering to a delivery codec (Sor3, Mpeg3, etc)

3) hold ctrl and drag on the timeline to scrub the audio. Also ll (2 l's fast) displays the waveform. l displays the waveform dB. Displaying the waveform can slow down your comp, so only use it when you need it, and you may want to split your file up (your #1 question - ctrl-shift-d), so it only shows pieces of the waveform.

4)If you happen to have a lot of files that you'd like to sequence (play 1 after another), you can select them all in the order you want them sequenced, right click/keyframe assistant/sequence.

I type too slow :(

I'm guessing strg is German for ctrl (control).

great! thanks for the help I got everything I needed. yea I was a bit confused about the strg also but i figured it was ctrl cause i remember how their keyboards are from my last trip there.

Dan

o and btw i figured y it was stuttering. its cause when i was rendering i set the frame rate to best rather than 24 or 30. but this is great now i know everything i need and wont need premiere again. another successful story at cgtalk. tks!

on PC, i think you hold down ALT as you drag the timeline if u wanna scrub audio. But the audio will sound broken, but better than nth.

you can turn it on/off in the Time Controls window. and you can have different settings for "Ram Preview" and "Shift+Ram Preview".
the quality settings for audio previews you'll find under Preferences.

nah, still no sound.

for as long as ive been using After Effects, ive never had audio during ram preview. And all this time i never questioned it thinking that the audio doesnt work.
But yeh, i still cant get sound.

for me it seemed to work fine by doing a ram preview when the audio is in the timeline.
but a new problem came up. How do you preview your audio from the project window?? Its tedious having to look at the audio name go to your folder look for the same name, play it with media player then go back to ae look for the name....

i can only talk about mac here: double-clicking your audio file in the project window opens a basic quicktime player, from where you can play your file.
btw if you are trying to locate a file on your harddisk, simply right-click your file and choose Reveal in Finder (Explorer)
