Title: Planet Shards (3D Matte)
Name: Luke Goddard
Country: United Kingdom
Software: Maya, Photoshop

This Image was created in four days for an ongoing project.
The image is a 3D still of an environment which was painted in photoshop and projected onto the geometry for limited movement.

The environment is set on a planet which, after a global disaster, was shattered into several large shards. Each of these shards are held together by a giant man made superstructure which extends over the planets surface. These 'arms' hold the planet together whilst protecting small cities nestled at their centres. The cities are fed by turbines spread throughout the planets cracks, powered by the fierce solar winds and ice storms raging through the planets core.
This particular scene shows one of these turbines and a large rift in the planets surface.

Any crits are welcomed, this is my first attempt at 3D projection mapping and, if requested, I will try and find some space to post the finished moving clip.

It's looks like it's 2D not 3D :), I like colors, nice work.

Hello!
Thank you for the comments.

The image origionated from a 2D sketch that I did which I then generated the geometry from.
After setting up the lighting and the camera, I took several renders (occlusion, sunlight and various masks) and then painted several matte plates which were projected onto the geometry.

I will save the clip in a web friendly format and post it up tomorrow.

Glad you like it!

Luke

I agree. Neat concept and well done painting. The structure at the bottom of the screen doesn't make alot of sense, but I'd like to see the animation nonetheless.
