View Full Version : How does the Radeon X850XTPE compare to X1950?
singularity2006 03-23-2007, 05:49 PM For a while, I thought I had maxed out my AGP video card for my old system but I'm itching to max out again since it appears AGP is not dead yet (I was hoping to build a maxed out 32 bit system and leave it sitting pretty until some distant future time before attempting to even touch 64 bit). However, I was wondering what the biggest difference is between the Radeon X850XT PE and the X1950? Originally I thought the greatest thing was the 16 pixel pipelines on the XTPE but now I see the X1950 with 12 pipelines, but a much faster clock on the CPU and memory.... comparisons?

Personally I have the X800 for over 3 years now and it gets laggy modeling in Maya 7.0. My buddy has a "gaming" rig with the 850 and he decided to get into 3D and has the same issues I have with the 800. Both great gaming cards but not so great for Maya. Plus- AGP is ol School- I'd go with PCIe which is the same change I'm about to make- Apparently the Quadro cards support SLI so I suppose that you can use 2 of the same model- 2x560 would be cool- The main difference from what I understand is the support for Open GL- Open GL 2.0 being the most current. Game cards and workstation cards are different in this sense- game cards typically don't support OpenGL.
