View Full Version : strategies for blending three tubes at a corner
noughtme 03-23-2007, 06:00 AM what's the best way to blend 3 tubes to form a corner? let's say 2 tubes are at 90 degrees with the third -15 degrees off vertical, like a table with a sloping leg.

Hi
Have you solved your problem already ?
Ok if not i'm not sure i got your description fully but is it something like this you want it to look like ? or should it be a bigger blended surface between the 3 tubes there..

thanks for the reply,
unfortunately my problems are two-fold, i'm trying to create a larger blend, not just a patch/networksrf corner, and the tubes are oval shaped. (i'd post a pic of my attempts, but i'm at my other job). i can't get enough curves to define the shape for sweep2's by simply blending all the isocurves into eachother.

Magnus made it nicely, assuming they would be so close to each other.
But, i wouldn't want to blend all of those three parts (atleast from such a long distance) but rather to blend two diffirent pairs of edges (bottom tube twice) with BlendSrf (you'll propably get better results by unchecking Same Height Shapes) and then merging the two BlendSft results with Boolean Union (don't cap them, though). Propably not the most prettiest sights in the rhino world, but does the trick (as seen on the two leftern most screenies) --> http://img45.imageshack.us/my.php?image=rhinolegsnm5.jpg
Or the second way that i would do it myself, would be to blend just the two and leave the one in Z-axis as a support, or, just create another support so you'll get two solid-looking legs which flow nicely all the way, which is the one i like best (check the two screenies in the right).
That's the way i would do it. I guess that was just an example, but 15 degrees seems awful lot to me :)

wow, how could i have forgotten to do that. must have been because it was 2am. i'll finish it up when i get home.
thanks.

Hi noughtme...
Is this the result you are looking for?

yeah, that's what i was trying to do. did you do the "blend sides to bottom, sides to eachother, then split everything, then blend everything together"?

Hi noughtme...
Like this, experiment with the cut to get the blend you want.
