Hi there! How can I create light trails like seen on night photographs? I mean the trail of a moving car's tail lights and stuff like that? Thanks. :hmm:

what kind of render? video or still pic? if its a still pic, then just render it out normally and bring it in photoshop and use the smug tool. if its video, then render it normally and bring it in after effects. thats what id do. there might be a script for it somewhere, but id just use another programs for those kind of effects.

you can use ghost trail..it's a free plugin , i've it but i didn't use it yet.. the following lines are copying from it's readme file :

GhostTrails is a modifier plugin that can be applied to any shape object
(editable splines or circles for example). What it does is to extrude the
shape along its path of motion to create a trail that moves behind the
object. Think of holding one end of a long ribbon and waving your hand about
and you'll get the idea.

& if you use adobe aftereffects..there are many ways to create cool effects of light beams ..check this page :

http://www.creativecow.net/articles/aftereffects.html

you'll find many tutorials for making the same trick.

Yeap, the ghost trail plugin... I tried to use that one, but the problem is that I can't get a transparent effect of the trail. I need it to glow and be transparent... how? is there any other methods of creating such effects in max? (without using digital image editing packages?) thanks.
