1999$? Strange... How much does Maya complete cost? ;)

It's a start.

I won't be upgrading my copy of MAX 4.2 until the upgrade price comes down to below what I can get a second full seat of Lightwave for :thumbsdow

Is it possible that your work got some sort of deal? I'll answer for you....yes. But anything is possible.

If that were true, chances are they would have done it prior to ending the fiscal quarter, which just happened, so I doubt it. Still, keep in mind that dealers can sell it for whatever they want. If you pay MSRP for it ($3495) then you're missing out. Street price for MAX has been around $2800-3000 for a LONG time. Are you sure those are new seats and not upgrades from a really old version?

I heart, when Maya lowered his price, that discreet didn't lower it's price because they wanted to show that 3dsmax is worth the price.

Oke, that was just months ago...

No deal for the company.... just straight up.

Actually I think it was more about the fact that 3d Studio has been priced the same since 1991 and that Alias and Soft were coming down to "their level".

So true.

Yep, the dealers can vary their price with max some. I got max 5 for $1795 as a crossgrade from Lightwave (which I got second hand for $500. So both programs cost me total $2295. Which all-in-all aint too shabby. So.....there are ways around it....

Yes, I heard they are offering a crossgrade for a registered copy of a competitive program, you can get max 5 for $1999.

It still doesn't justify their price when you consider what you get for Maya & MR.

I'm also not too pleased that you have to be on their subscription program to get a Shockwave 3d plugin upgrade.

I think it's just a matter of time, that they will offer this price for a new license.

This wouldn't be the company that actually put the price up rather noticeably of Combustion 2 before someone threw a bucket of reality over them .:)

There's rumors that max is going to get that same MR deal with the next release of max. That's info from the discreet support forum.

These WERE full seats. No discounts except like a $100 one to match Maya's price.

[edit] I feel like I'm gossiping and that's not cool in my book so I'm going to shut my mouth.

Take care everyone

Trouble is that MR for 3ds has had very little in updates since it came out(3 years). It is extremely poor connection(10x worse then maya to mr), very little controll and you can't use any MR shaders.

Even at 2k max is still going to be behind in price because you still have to pay an additional 1500 for character studio.

:surprised Only if you need Character Studio.

Character Studio is $995 now.

Again, I would hope that discreet include it in max 6, or come up with an alternative and infuse most that power into max regular bones/animation system.

Don't worry, visaulboo. I saw the same little slip about mental ray 3 and the 'next release of max'. It didn't seem like gossip to me.

Is the next version going to be max6 or the rewrite? Anyone have any info?

I saw at one reseller site that had Max with CS4 for $3,595 as a packaged deal. You can get Max for $2,995 alone.

Here's the link.
