Is there a way to increase hair rendering quality in xsi (with hair included in the software). I am on high render quality in properties but I still find it dirty. The antialisaing seems bad like if it wasn't dithering the hair.

check out your filtering.. box and tri will make your hair look pretty bad.. I had good experience with gauss.

If you could post every single one of your settings I could probably let you know if there is something that is causing the problem.

You should try out the rasterizer, that loves hair and will give you cleaner results with lower rendering times.
