View Full Version : rendering an animation
rachethead 03-05-2003, 07:36 PM I was just curious if anyone had ideas about what would the best method for rendering an animation: scanline, light tracer or radiosity. I'm getting ready to prep my materials and want to make a decision accordingly. Thx in advance

Howdy !
If i may, i'd rather ask myself which one for what kind of lighting setup and rendering... i mean, anyhow, LightTracer and Radiosity in Max5 use the scanline renderer, and choosing between using "Advanced Lighting" (Light Tracer or Radiosity) or nothing is really choosing between lightings...
If your question was about, which one of these process will take longer to render, then probably i'd say it all depends on your scene...
hope this could help

Hey, my scene is currently at about 300,000 polys and will have some fairly large texture maps. Also, I plan on having a typical key, fill and specular light set up in addition to around 10-12 volume lights and nine accent lights. Beyond that, I will have three or four particle systems creating smoke and steam effects. That being said, it could be a fairly heavy render. I guess I was wondering if the advanced lighting set up is going to make this unreasonable as I have about three minutes of footage to render. Also, any personal insights or experiences would be welcome. Thank you.
