View Full Version : Maya Constraint issues please help!
doppelganger 03-31-2002, 01:46 AM Regards all. I am using the Mastering Maya 2 book but the software here at school is Maya 4. I am having issues with the constrain option under Animation. Say I create a sphere and then a light or a camera. I want to constrain the light to stay on the sphere. I slect the ball then shift select the light go to Constrain>>Aim and every time the light or camera will point in the opposite direction! I cant seem to get it to work. I was orioginally doing the rocket tutorial but I thought maybe I have some dummy objects or construction curves in the scene so I opened a new project and tried it with just the sphere and the light. Same issue.
PLEASE help! You can download my scene file at

easy ,
after you constrain it open the attribute editor for:
spotlight aim constraint , under the Aim constraint attributes , there is Aim vector.
play with numbers there until the spotlight is pointing at the sphere.
hope that helps

Thanks for the reply. Will this maintain the spotlight's focus on the object when it moves? It seems to me that when you constrain a light or camera to something the focus should point to that object??
