hi guys,

I am using 3ds max 8 & Vray 1.5rc2. Currently I do not have a budget to purchase hi end graphics cards. Need advice for a mid level graphics card that will show Vray materials in my material editor quickly & give me good looking previews of materials applied when I select option "Smooth + higlights". Please advice if there is anthing important I am missing & also some advice about suppport for directx 9, 10.....& if this really matters.

Thanks & regards,
sachin.

There is no point in buying a quadro card when using max. Just buy a 8800gtx. Max is all about direct3d anyway. The only feature the quadro offers in max (d3d mode) that the gf doesnt is antialiasing in wireframes. If you are on a realy tight budget just get a old geforce 6800 and softmod it to quadro,.. (softmod isnt possible on newer cards)

I just changed my quadro fx3000 in a 8800gtx and its so much faster in max it ridicoulous. This thread on guru3d.com seems so confirm my experience. http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=178000
