Hi. I'm a 22-year-old student who really liked to learn how to make digital matte paintings. I just bought a Wacom Intuos (I) from Ebay and I've browsed through these excellent forums, but I still find it hard to start. Thus I wish you people could help me a bit to get started! Here are the main things I liked to know at the moment:

1. Setting up Wacom Intuos for digital matte painting.
I'm new to working with Wacom so any tips to make the change from mouse easier and the feel of Wacom more natural would be greatly apprechiated.

2. Brushes in Photoshop CS2.
Ok, I've watched some quick video tutorials (and training video samples) and it seems that some artists use different custom brushes etc. and some use just some basic-looking brush to do pretty much all the painting. What kind fo brushes are the most essential? Where could one get them? Once again any information about "brushes for beginners" would be welcomed.

3. Best free tutorials for beginners.
I browsed through the tutorials -thread here at the matte painting forum, but they're just randomly listed links to all kinds of tutorials in all skill levels and styles. What tutorials You think would be best for beginners? Maybe if we collected them, we could help other beginners too.

4. Best commercial training DVD's.
I don't have a lot of money at the moment, but I'm willing to buy 1-2 DVDs to get me started, IF they really help. So, which DVDs would you people recommend?

Maybe I should mention what I liked to paint to help you help me :) Mostly I liked to paint landscapes and cityscapes and all the strange places I see just before I fall asleep or wake up. I also liked to be able to do some quickish colored sketches for 3d-animation scenes and what not.

I hope this didn't sound like I want you to make all the work for me; that's not my purpose. I just liked to have a slight push to the right direction and maybe avoid some of the mistakes beginners make (are there any?). Thanks in advance and have a nice day!

I also just started making matte painting, and bought a wacom 3 weeks ago.
The only way to get used to it and become comfortable with it is to practice it alot, and try not to use your mouse for a few days.
I haven't read any tutorials. I just begin making sketches, than search High-ress photos that match my sketch, and try to fit it all together.

There probably thousands sets of Brushes on the net, you have to experiment which bruches you like best.
