...Sabiston is most famous for designing Rotoshop, the software used to digitally create the distinctive rotoscoping animation used most prominently in director Richard Linklater's Waking Life and A Scanner Darkly. Also an accomplished illustrator, Sabiston saw unused potential in the Nintendo DS, with the device's dual screens and touch-sensitive, stylus-based interface naturally positioning it as a great platform for drawing....

For ages I have been hoping that something like this would be released, It is such a good idea, and it also has animation?!!! Im sold.

Ahhh the good ol' days of Mario Paint.

The fact that this program does animation is where I'm sold. It is amazing to see the power of the Nintendo DS actually being used! Great work!

This is what the DS was made for. Whatever happened to the Bob Ross game though?

I agree, bring this software out NOW. Seriously, I haven't bought a single DS game since november (FFIII) and I keep even scouring the import scene to find ANYTHING worth snagging. When is that Guitar program hitting the states?

This is what the DS was made for. Whatever happened to the Bob Ross game though?

It silently retired after a Zoloft addiction scandel was uncovered...

times like this I'm glad I don't have a DS. buying a plaything app because nothing else is worthwhile on the ds. It's interesting they build the app for DS, but I'd never use a DS for artwork, nor would I buy an app for the DS when it's something I could do more comfortably on a workstation or laptop (mac or pc). I guess some will buy it and the developer can at least get some beer money.

looks like a fantastic idea..esp if you can upload your results to a pc or net etc...doodling on the train would be fun!

Why waste your time drawing and animating on that when you can just do the real thing?

I can see how people outside this industry can find this impressive.
But to me thats like cooking dinner in a easy bake oven.
It might look cooked but it's raw on the inside.

I never said nothing else was worthwhile on DS. I just said nothing looked good TO ME. I'm awaiting Ouendon 2 and Pokemon Doamond. Those just aren't here yet and considering I've been plunking down money for PS3, 360, PSP (DJ Max Portable 2 Black LE preorder), and PS2, my DS needs more stuff like this for the fun of it.

''wasting time''..so's playing games then and watching films and watching tv and...well nr everything you do including sleeping:)....this is a creative game type..and does not replace
photoshop or tv paint but offers people the opportunity to draw/animate on the mobile gaming platform...

it's called ''choice''...you can if you prefer not to get/use it...but plenty of people out there
will want it...in the end the thing will come to market if there's a 'market' for it.

this is way cool, I just buy an dslite for using it as a digital sketch book , provided you can send your drawings directly to your pc via wifi. In the pdf i read it only transfers images via the autors website that sucks.

Now this is a cracking idea - I've attempted to use my PDA in the past as a pocket digital sketchbook, but the painful ergonomics and tiny screen made the experience totally futile. However, the DS is nice to hold and the second screen would provide plenty of extra estate to really see what you're doing. If this was on the market and - as ysvry notes - you could easily port artwork back to your computer, my purchase would be guaranteed without question. Whether Nintendo would ever sanction something is niche as this is another issue entirely.

There are other people in the world too you know, some who would take great offense at any attack on their precious easy bake ovens. Oh easy bake... how I love thee...
