Hi, I'm trying to create a air vehicle and I need to have an animatable flame/rocket trust coming out of one or two parts of the ship. I'm wanting the really cool sci-fi blue flame look like in Final Fantasy X, and I am also looking for a high level of realism. So that includes heat waves and small dust particles that might be associated with flames.

I'm not sure how or where to begin with this. I would appreciate any ideas on how to create this realistic flame.

Thanks

Here's a great tutorial:
Go to www.secondreality.ch then click on tutorials, then under Effects it's called Engine Flames. It's the last one on the page. It's a good tut that shows how to use basic Max tools. And once you do the tut, you can mess with the settings and play around to get the effect you're looking for.

Thanks for the link. Thats pretty primitive though. I guess it depends on the level you are. I didn't really introduce myself to the forum yet. I'm actually pretty good at max. One of these days i'll post my work. I was looking for ideas on creating the effects... just concepts.

I spent most of today working on a particle system to create my flame effect. I've got it down to having the right colors and right shape, just gotta play with some other things to get it to look a little more real. I'll post a pict when I'm done with it...

Got any ideas on how to give it streaks though the flame?
