I have checked the AE manual for the shortcut to centre anchor point after typing text but I could not find it. I know there should be a shortcut for this 'cos I have come across it before but I cant remember...can someone please remind me.

Okay, by default, the anchor point is on the bottom left hand corner, how can I centre it and also take it to the right. I beleive there should be shortcut to do this. What I do is to do it manually and in most cases I dont centre it correctly.

No. There's a JSX script out there that can align anchor points easily (I believe on nabscripts.com), but it's useless for text layers. Text layers do not expose their size in pixels do scripts and expressions, so the script has no way to calculate the correct position.
