Mafia,

Well, I guess you should first ask yourself how the model will appear in your scene ...

If it's full screen that's an entirely different modeling task than if it's lying on the ground next to a tree in the background.

If fullscreen than you will have to model quite a bit in which case I'd suggest gathering TONS and TONS of reference material. For example, cut a pinecone right down the middle lengthwise -- that'll give you TONS of clues as to how to build it in maya. Draw it from a dozen or more angles - what's the anatomy of a pinecone from the middle out?

On the other hand, if it's a bg element then a good texture will do 'er right.

If you wnat a really cool mel script to help you make a pine cone I think this one

ckDupMaker.mel

will work, just mess with the settings.

Go to http://www.kniffen.ca/ and to the mel section.

Chris made a pretty nice little intelligent GUI to give you all the
options you need.

Try it with one simple pinecone piece and then dupe it in a circle.
Move the centerpoint where the center of the cone would be and try it out.

ok, i have followed a tut before where i typed from start to finnish a mel script.... which worked...

but im having a few problems with these scripts u just pointed me to....

im using MayaPLE.... when i open the scripts i have saved from kniffen's site i copy the text and paste it in the script editor..... which does not work-

i have also tryed to use the open script command from within the script editor which does not work either...

the (only) script i have used before works when i copy and paste the text.... all i can think is that the scripts from the above site will not work in PLE..?

any ideas?
sorry for asking noob questions:bounce:

I think if you source the script, or jsut copy and paste it like you did. You also have to activate it. Run the script first. And then in the command line type

ckDupeMaker;

I think that is the command to make the GUI pop up.

Check the script thre is a line like this

global proc ckDupeMaker (); (or something like this)

the underlined portion is the part you need to type into the command line. With the semicolon at the end also.

Good luck.
