Hi Guys,

In the next week or so i'll be buying a completely new base to replace my old PC. That said it ain't too old and i was wondering if i could some how put it to good use.

Now forgive me, i'm not very technical :-) Is it possible to some how link up my old PC to the new one, like a slave PC or server maybe. What i was thinking was could i use that base to process renders while working freely on my new workstation?

Cheers - Dave.

Yes, and it entirely depends on your render setup as to how it would work.

Thanks, can you expand on that? The two main programs i would be using are 3dsMax and Vue 6.

What he means is depdning on your app, the way to set up a network rendering session will be different. I'm not a Max user my self, so I can't answer specifics, but the main idea behind network rendering (or render farms) is you have a host computer. It contains the scenes, objects, plugins, etc. (this may be different on different rendering solutions) You then have render nodes. Each node is a single machine on the network. It will log into the host computer and ask for a render job. The job is then passed to the node, and the job is rendered out. Upon finish the node will save the rendered frame into the desired destination folder and ask for the next job.

This goes on until there are no more jobs.

As for exact setup, you may benefit more from asking in the Max forums, or doing a search, as I'm sure this has come up plenty of times before :)
