View Full Version : Real reflection...
serkor0000 03-04-2003, 04:43 PM Hi!
I have created a little interior. Texture in the floor I think is ok.
But reflection can not see photorealistic!
How can I get a real reflection ?
How i can simulate blur effect of real reflection?
Have you seen any docs, tutorials?
How i can make this effect?

Real reflection blured and don't reflect all object!

I belive you're going to have to invest in a 3rd party render. Brazil for instance has blurry reflections, as well as finalRender. I would guess vRay as well really..
But yeah, you're likely going to have to aquire a new render.

When in doubt refer to the always helpful Neil Blevins for advice. Check out this tutorial, and hit some of the others on his site well.

I know how make the real reflection with FinalRender, Brazil.
But my promblem is not this case. I must make test scene for Virtual Television Studio with Standart Scanline Render. This system understand only standart 3Dmax methods and don't understand Raytraced and Other renders possibililities. But I must find method of simulate real reflection with standart methods, at this moment i trying use falloff mask.

Thank you. But I have seen this site before the start this topic. I reading all article on Neil Blevins site and it wery professional materials but for creating real reflection he use Addons Renders and bump map but in my situation it is not work.

A Flat mirror shader has a blur parameter, and blurs the reflection. Maybe you could use a gradient to increase/decrease the blur FX in the reflection. I don't know if that's possible though, you should try that yourself.

Ok, did a quick set-up;
Difusse map: photograph of wooden floor
Reflection map: Linear Gradient
Color #1=252,252,252 Assigned a flat mirror shader
Color #2=000,000,000
Color #3=000,000,000
Color 2 position I changed to 0.22 (You should look in your own scene what's the best value)
Bump map: instance of difusse map
I used 2 lights, one for the overall scene (excluding the floor, cause it would reflect the light to "hard")
The second light only includes the floor, and give it a low Multiplier (0.3) Otherwise you can't see the diffuse map.
Hope this works for you.

To include/exclude objects from reflection, you could use Raytrace instead of Flat mirror. And that's that.

Martijn's method is probably the best in this case.
Besides, if you want true reflection blur, under Global Raytracer Settings check the Global Ray Antialiaser on.
Then you can sit back and have cups of coffee...it will take hours to render.

Thanks a lot. It best solution for my problem.

The virtual system have a lot of render power. That i see in the studio it was a fantastic. This system render space landscape with anim elements and kinematics motion in realtime.
Thanks a lot Martijn. It real cool solution.

No sweat. Glad I could help. Would like to see the actual renders though.;) ;)
