I'm doing a space scene and basically gonna blow up a comet and a plane when they collide. Now , this is the hardest part, making the explo.

You gotta click on the last BLUE line(link) if you dont see the pic immediately.

Here's some pics:(anything but the explosion itself are hidden)
Pic 1 (http://www.3dsmax.reallyrules.com/max/maxexplosion1.jpg) Pic 2 (http://www.3dsmax.reallyrules.com/max/maxexplosion2.jpg) Pic 3 (http://www.3dsmax.reallyrules.com/max/maxexplosion3.jpg) Perspective normal render (http://www.3dsmax.reallyrules.com/max/maxexplosion4.jpg) Video Post Render (http://www.3dsmax.reallyrules.com/max/maxexplosion5.jpg)

Basically i got in there:
1 bomb
1 sphere gizmo
1 sphere(to be exploded)
1 omni light(for lens flare)
1 super spray(for particles+glow)

So...

I used bomb to explode sphere(so it goes puff...thats good)
I used the gizmo for the fire like explo...good...problem..i cant render it in the video post for some reason.(its very weird because i could do that before i took those pics..)...but when i render the normal way(without glow/lens flare and so on from the post)...it works just fine.:annoyed:

Second problem i have is with the Flare effects. I made the omni light the so called "carrier" of it but when i render with the post..i can only see the particles of the super spray glowing and exploding outwards(which is good because thats what they were supposed to do). How do i make the flare effect show when i render it with the post?:bounce:

Those are the problems up till now(not over yet)...so the lens flare aint working in both the video post and the normal render(which is supposed not to work in)...and also the gizmo only shows its explosion only in the normal render and not in the post(even tho a couple of minutes before it worked okay)...

kinda confused...especially since i'm in a intro course in max i'm supposed to finish this in like 2 weeks. But seeing as i have to synchronize the sound fx and everything else in a video editor, i must finish the max renderings by the end of this week. :buttrock:

if your video post flare isn't rendering out but the glow is then i would guess your video post tree is set up wrong, post a pic of that - and if everything looks right there, i'd be happy to take a look at your max file to try and find the problem

Explosion (http://www.3dsmax.reallyrules.com/max/explosion-final.jpg)

thats how it looks like.Or should look like. I've added the same effects from the lens flare to the light thanks to the "Fire Effect" and now it works.

My question is this. How can i animate those effects so everything will start growing up to 1 point and then just fade out?

The background explosion with the bomb, gizmo and ojects is easy..but the omni light and the glow of the super spray also have to be animated....and i'm looking at about 200 frames just for the record.

The Video Post set-up is in the second picture in my above post. Thanx for the help.:p

ok, the video post tree is hard to make out w/ that small pic but regardless....everything your talking about animating can be animated just by hitting that good 'ole 'animate' button -- set your keys for the glow obviously actually inside vid post, and the omni light should be self explanatory -

track view might help you out here as well

edit: and the link to your 'explosion' pic isn't working

yeah it is..just click on tha last link(the 3rd one) where it says to "download the file you wish to get" or something of that sort.

I've never really worked with the trackview animation options except change the range from 0 to 100 towards 0 to 200 or whatever like that.

I'll have a go at it.

As for the omni light...as much as self explanatory it may be, me being a total 3d newbie, will miss lots..so for me it ain't that easy...at least for now....but i'm learning fast :)

sorry about that, on the omni light all you will need to do is animate the intensity

ohh...okay then...thanks...i'll give it a go when i get home and i'll try synchronizing everything to perfection. If this'll work, all i need to do is render everything else from the previous scene and this scene and then just bind them together in Xpress DV.

One question tho. In the previous scene i want to do a fade between 2 different camera's which fallow 2 different objects. How can i do that? There's 2 fade effects i saw.

One is a normal fade effect and another one is when i select both cameras and add a layer effect or something like that.

Also...i tried it with both and with both after the first camera is finished, it fades out to the second one but the object is view from the same angle as before and it doesn't look to mbe moving. Which is very weird.

Hopefully this weekend my techer'll help me with this in more detail.

and one last thing except for the camre fade thing i need help with.

When the comet and the plane collide and the explosion happens, the comet's trail(2 sprays) is still making particles and i can't think of a way to stop that once the explosion happens.

Any ideas?:)
