I get an error when I right click in the viewport in Maya 8.5. All I get is a small square box near the cursor.

// Error: artAttrCreateMenuItems( $parent, $paintAttr ); //
// Error: Wrong number of arguments on call to artAttrCreateMenuItems. //

Could someone help me out?
Thanks
Manoj

When in doubt, trash your prefs folder.

That MEL proc takes 3 parameters now and it looks like someone is trying to call it with 2 parameters. Are you sure that you don't have a customized mel script somewhere which is calling the proc incorrectly? In particular, have you customized dagMenuProc.mel?

Maya 8.5 has a number of bugs when you install it next to previous Maya versions. It basically uses the script paths from previous installs rather than the new ones. I've had exactly the same problem with every single Maya seat here. I just un-installed every previous version of Maya, deleted all reg keys and environment variables, and then re-installed Maya 8.5. I spent far too long swearing profanities whilst trying to figure that one out. I was not amused in the slightest.

I have almost every version of Maya installed at the same time and haven't had this problem. What OS are you guys on? Have you set the script path in some special way? I haven't personally heard of anyone around here experiencing something like this but if we can reproduce it then I'd like to see it fixed as soon as possible.

Has anyone talked to Maya support? If so then I could at least see if anyone else has investigated the problem.

XP pro

nope. the defaults.

I kinda gave up on Maya support. They've never actually answered any of my support requests for years :(

Infact, only one person has ever responded to any of my support questions in the last 9 years - Samy Ben Rabah. I just kinda assumed that he's no longer in your support dept?
