http://www.h2o-media.nu/skinny/skinnyposter.jpg
Hi all..
.. I would like to see some more tutorials in the CINEMA4D community.. so Im starting my own tutorial contest.. :D
Prizes will be personally donated by me ( prizes will be announced shortly, hopefully will maxon give me a call and save me... *** hint :D )
First out is rigging with SoftIK ( yeah I know, could be easier..)
Heres the rules..
Make the tutorial the way you are thinking, and with your own bone technique..( dont copy the manual ;)) second, to make life easier, use the MR.SKINNY.
... and yes, not a contest without a deadline.. 1 april 2003, is that OK?
Post your tutorial in a seperate thread or make an .pdf/.doc or something so we all can see your superior rigging..
Mr.Skinny - model (http://www.h2o-media.nu/skinny/skinny.zip)
Okidoki.. here we go... or is it a bad idea.. please tell me..
( I shall enter this any way.. ;))

sure, sounds good I'll give a go, one question though could we use a better gesture model of our own, no offense to you or mister skinny, but especially in the shoulders those won't work very well, they will bend of course but they won't bend nicely part of what makes a good rig is a good mesh.

also are we required to provide a file as well.
feel free to use your own models..
All I require is that you explain with words and images what you have done and why.. (the setup)
IŽll post an example later in the week..
2 more things..
My ISP seem to have trouble right know ( image and link dont work )..
Prize.. just an idea ( havnt got any call from maxon yet ;))
Giftwares/book/dvd from AMAZON?, a free plugin maybee?
.. lets se ( looking in the wallet.. :D) for a value of..$75..
OK.. good then, let the race begin..
Kaiskai.. rumors telling me that you are a good animator.. maybe you could make him dance afterall.. ;)

Classical maybe, 3D still a lot to learn, but thing is I haven't actually done my own total rig I've jsut been starting that now for my reel so this was good timing.
Good luck to you then...
I shall try to practice some trix/tips from my lightwave era.. ;)
( see how/if they adopt to SoftIK.)
OK.
Here comes one ( of many ) setup.

Also a small movie showing some hip movments.. :D
( realtime keyframing with the mouse, note that upper body isnt ready yet..)
testhip.mov -800k *sorry for slow connection (http://www.h2o-media.nu/skinny/testhip.mov)

looks like the body is held up by the arms as the body shifts the arms barely move a smidgen
yepp..
In that movie is the rig not finished yet.. only animated the pelvis bone=lowerbody.. ( and the head..)
Heres an Xray ( naked ) movie.
hip.mov - 1.2mb (http://www.h2o-media.nu/skinny/hip.mov)
*updated movie ( and moves..)
hip2.mov - 0.8mb *more movment (http://www.h2o-media.nu/skinny/hip2.mov)
did some rigging with arms and handcontrollers
(simply animation but more overall feel - only 3 animated parts(hands and hip bones))
BTW could someone fill in how to controll and/or constrain breakingpoints, like tighbone and shoulderbones.. its hard sometimes they do a 180 degree flipNtwist..
Scene file with bones.. (http://www.h2o-media.nu/skinny/hip2.zip)
OK.. be warned.. its not optimized in any way. :D feel free if you want to do some adjusting.. just post it here then..

you mean the way the rotate on their Z axis for no reason, this can be fixed easily using upvectors, I'll make sur to cover that in mine.
