It's a good update, I'm enjoying the render speed as I type...oh maybe it's done...lol
On a side note I did review Modo 203 for www.subdivisionmodeling.com if you guys want to check it out.

Must admit i was hoping/expecting a lot more goodies from Modo 203.....
Just from the .pdf without using it as yet, i'm fairly disappointed with the new additions.

The luxology link above your review points to eovia/DAZ3D instead of luxology. Might want to tell the webmaster of the site to correct it.
Nice review otherwise.

Ah, thank you! The template didn't get changed since the last review I guess lol. Should be fixed soon.

For a free "point" upgrade, it seems to have quite a lot. For an already very fast renderer to get even faster is a good update.
I find modo a very intriguing renderer. It is definitely one of the most photo-realistic renderers around.

I seem to always judge modo based on things its done bad, but looking at the video of the uv tools alone, im happy with just having that feature fixed. will have to see how well the symmetry stuff works.

Its a lot harder to break symmetry now, it still can happen, but its a lot better.

yeah. i just played around with it. used a buncha bevelling, edge extrusions, tweaks with large falloffs ( that went beyond the symmetry line ), splitting, etc, and i couldnt break it.
usually a few minutes with the old symmetry would kill it. this surely seems to work a ton better. how long do you find that you can work with symmetry now before it breaks?

Take a look at this. This shows you what modo 203 can do:
(this URL links to a Quicktime video)
http://content14.luxology.com/modo/201/video/ShortsShoe_Sample2.mov
The video is just an introduction to a training series that Luxology offers. It shows you how to model the above shoe. As you watch it, you can see lots of cool modeling moves.

I never see it break, but I dont do a lot of organic modelling, but from reports it is still possible to break it, but its much more useable now.

Symmetry had always been the achilles heal for me. I always ended up turning back to Silo for Organic stuff because of this. Also the loop slice hasn't been the greatest in the past. Don't get me wrong Modo is amazing, but for box modelers Modo's workflow can be awkward at times. Thanks for the free upgrade Luxology.

Nice of you to create a new acct and write that as your first post... sheesh.

Sorry, i'll post a much nicer post just to satisfy you in the future.....
If you don't like Honesty, don't read it.... ;)
It's certainly a little faster, and that's good.... But an unispiring update none the less.

How is it uninspiring? its a free incremental update, not a point release. Most companies, usually give bug fixes, but were getting improve UV tools, and faster renderer.

Luxology's modo is getting really good. I love the modeling tools, because my modeling gets quicker. UV's are so much easier now than previous modeling programs I've used.
Rendering quality is phenomenal. I surprise myself with the realism of my modo renders now. The update runs significantly faster when rendering really high poly-count scenes.

I usually like to see a mix of positive and critical comments about any product. But the problem with 'FreakWizz' is that it is someone who has never used modo, but despite that, created a new CGTalk account and used the first 2 posts just to throw dirt on a software product he never tried.
Especially since the update is a free incremental update, and contains more features than free updates from other companies.
'FreakWizz' said: "It's certainly a little faster" but "an unispiring update"
That's a bizarre comment from someone who doesn't use it. How are you "certain" of the speed difference (when you did not try it), and how do you come to the conclusion it's only "a little" faster? Completely bizarre comment. Also, 'FreakWizz's home city of "Yez" does not exist anywhere. Sure you don't work for a certain Texas 3D company?

Updates are supposed to be bug fixes and various other small things added to the application. If you are waiting for huge features you're waiting for the upgrade. 203 is very nice, I'm very happy with Luxology has done to improve upon Modo.

im not going to get defensive over modo, but this was supposed to be just a stability release for the most part. the fact that i can use more operations on uved models without breaking my uvs as much as modo used to, use symmetry more now, and better uv tools.. dude, soo worth it. this is the stuff that matters, and not animation tools that dont fully work, or first gen high poly disp tools, etc. the "exciting" release of modo will come later this year. expect it then, but dont expect it to be as stable, reliable as a "stability" release.
