It does look like ice cream. The melt effect is nice. It could pass for something else also. You might want to hang on to that one.

i think it's pretty close - i agree that adding some crystals would make it look photo-real.

Yeah I know if it was strawberry or so, those comments didn't show up.

but my "ice client" needed the chocolate version first, the other flavours will come I promise. but what i need to know are those little details to make it really lookphotoreel..

Started with the Banana Royal, (chocolate Parts)

and a pdate on the chocolate version, it looks more frozen now i guess?!?

The bump mapping is still making it look a teeny bit like plastic, but I can't place just why.

It doesn't quite look like a deranged walnut anymore, though! ;)

I also understand that advertising companies use mashed potatoes and film it as ice cream...yum...mashed potatoes....

but the problem i still got i have to make this kinda ice but then when they come out of a machine like those Soft Icecreams,
and therefor i dont have references, these pictures were made to convince the photoquality of 3d instead of pictures as Nt monkey said.

ntmonkey : Yep your right and that's why they came to us because whit splashed potatoes you can't make an animation..!!

Did you knew they also used "Oil to bake French fries in" (baking fat) to make Ice?!

TheFreak : thanks for the quick reply! yes I have a refference photo.. just keep in mind its not some soft ice cream its ice as those ice coups but then out a machine of soft ice.
and that kind of ice doesn't shine that much..

trully, it look very good now, except, maybe the cornet (cookie part of the ice cream, don't know how to say it) that looks a little plastic, not enought denty... How did you do the ice cream it self ? it's so realistic !

Wire is coming..

Oke here we go.
Software used: 3dsmax and Photoshop

First I made the whole stroke of ice.with a displacement mapping for higher detail. Then a spline in the direction of what the ice should be, with the modifier path deform i made the ice deform that way. Now the ice is in shape, Adding some textures. and make a cookie and there's your ice cream.

As promised a wire.
