khalid1357 03-12-2007, 08:10 PM hi there every1, im sorry if this post is off topic, but i really need some help with my project.
im trying to create wings for a character that i modeld.
i allreday created the wings but what i need help with is how to rig it so the wings can close and open, i have a copy of the plugin cloth fx but i dont know how to rig parts of the mesh so it can stick to the bones.

throw this question up into the rigging sub-forum and you will probably get more responce.
also include what software you are usein' and images to maybe help people see where you are comming from.
Hey,
I guess this depends on the project your working on, but i would suggest you look into rotation reaction manager, you can set the bones up so when the featheres collapse into eachother that they do so in a certain manner and timing which you can control

You beat me to it (the http://www.tysonibele.com/Main/main.htm link). :D
Look at how a bat's wings work, there basically broken crooked fingers - so keep it simple: FK primarily with a ctrl to control the curling. You can add additional layers such as node to add slight vibrations as it flies. You can even go more complex and bind the ribs of the wings ( digits) with a cloth bound simulation - really depends on how detailed you want to go.

There is a recent discussion of this on XSI Base: http://www.xsibase.com/forum/index.php?board=11;action=display;threadid=28727
Even if you aren't using XSI, it might be useful as reference.

If your wing is all one mesh, fingers and webbing and all, I would just use joints going down each finger, and maybe a couple joint chains down each section of webbing. Then use set-driven keys to control them folding up and stretching out.

lol i must agree, there was a tutorial for a curtain in reactor where u attach some vertx to the metal pole and the rest would animate like cloth.
ill try to find it and see how this goes
