Hi

1. you want all the textures you use in a project to be automatically copied to the sourceimages folder of the same project, so when you export it they are all there.

problem: if you grab the textures from your own texture directory that you created somewhere on your hd (the place you use to keep all of your textures to be clear)they wont be in the sourceimages folder so when you export the project to another machine the texture will of course be missing, no?

2. first you model, then you texture, right?

problem: you create ten identical temple columns and want them textured in the same way. you grab the first and set the uv s in the uv tex. editor (it takes ten minutes lets say). now how do you texture the other nine columns? you cant be going each time to the texture editor and doing the same thing over and over????

thanks &

1- If you create a "Project" directory there is nothing to fear, The scene will look in the correct texture directory.

2- Right. Texture after modeling is done. you need 10 columns, make one UV unwrap it then duplicate. If they need to have a different texture just swap the original texture... there are several ways to go by doing this.

good luck.

Thanks Angel

I ll try :) When you say create a project directory you mean File>Project>New Project... that s it? And when I export the project directory to an external media and load it in another machine my textures will be there?

Sorry to ask twice, trying to understand how it works.

If your texture path changes and Maya cant find them, try updating the path to just one of the textures, Maya usually finds the rest no problem. Failing this I think there are some mel scripts knocking around which will do an en-masse reload of textures. A completely foolproof way is to have your textures in the same directory as your scene files though this is not always practical or desirable.

As for the textured pillar, either duplicate a pillar which you have already unwrapped or as long as you dont alter the geometry of the duplicates (just adding/removing vertices mainly) then you can unwrap one pillar and then copy the UVs over to the rest. If your duplicates are instances then any changes you make to the UVs will propogate through the others. Personally I find instances throw up their own additional headaches so tend to avoid them but its an option.
