View Full Version : My first animation post!
Fung-Destin 03-12-2007, 10:23 AM Hi guys,
Here is a very short animation sequence I just uploaded.
This animation is one of my university projects and it is made on the pre-rigged Generi by Andrew Silke.
The animation link is: http://www.lyifeng.com/3d_pj1_new.html

thats really cool, i like it. Is it made in maya? I like the anticipation in the character animation.
How complex is the character rig? I like the way the feet work with the ground

Thanks mate, the rig is originally made by Andrew Silke, and it's free.

Heheh, very nice. Really like the movement, particularly that sneak/walk at the beginning. Love it!
I would say that perhaps the character needs a bit more expression in his face in places, like when he looks at the bee fly away.
Up to you though, the look of confusion with slight dismay at the end is pretty comical.
Good stuff :D

great idea! it reminds me of harry potter a little. i agree with the the character needing more expression. he doesnt seem very sincere with his acting. the movment is decent, a little stiff but deffinettly on the right track. i know what his goals are and what he is feeling so thats good! anyway keep it up!

I like it! The timing is good, especially as he slows down while creeping up on the bug. Both the jump and the final reaction show a lot of improvement over the original. I can only think of two critiques, and they're both pretty minor:
1) As the bug comes down on his head, the speed of that downward motion strikes me as too steady; I think it should speed up more as it falls. This would give a stronger sense of impact and justify Generi's arms flailing like they do.
2) This one has more to do with composition than animation. At the end, the top of Generi's head almost makes a tangent with the horizon line, and you usually want to avoid that in your shots. I see that there is a little space between the head and horizon, but they're so close and parallel that at first I thought they lined up exactly. If you change the camera angle or head position slightly so they head is either just above or further below the horizon, it'd make the character 'pop' a little more from the background.
Like I said though, these are just minor things, and I see a lot of improvement over the previous version. Good job!

Thank you guys! Very valuable advice u've given~
I realised the weakness in the facial part, that is also what I considered the harder part of character animation, it often needs greater observations to make improvements on that as it's easily overshadowed by body movements.
Thanks Patfour for the detailed comment, i'll be more careful with the composition next time!
