Working with many layers and masks on a 5 y/o computer is just sad sometimes... sigh.

I'm hoping to increase my viewport speed by working with my masks in half-res, but unfortunately AE7 doesn't by default show mask results in pre-comp's at anything less than full resolution...

Does anybody know of a way to set this up or at least a better way to work with footage precomp masks?

Thanks

you could just pre-render your precomp as a file sequence, then set it as a proxy. That way, when the proxy button is active, you'll be working quickly on the fileset, but then you just click it off and it goes back to using the actual precomp.

check out how to set proxies in the help files - it's super easy. (just right click on the footage in the bin, pick the proxy thing, then find your pre-render. ta da!)
