Hey all,

I'm working together on this one with Shawn Woods (http://forums.cgsociety.org/member.php?userid=3506), we're both model/texture artists at Relic Entertainment (http://www.relic.com/).

We're a bit on the late side, but there's perhaps since there's 2 of us, we can manage it on time. We'll see...

Here are a few concepts that we've been working on:

They're obviously all still quite rough, nothing nailed down yet, and we'd love some critiques/opinions if ya got 'em!!

i like the torso from the first one, the weapon and helmet from the second and the arm from third one.

hope you'll manage to finish in time. good luck !

yeh, im comming in late too, look like were going to have a late flourish here. nice. like to torso head from the first, but i think it needs more of a feel from the arm on the second in it, feels more ancient.

These were some early design ideas we had, but nothing really stood out for us as a unified design. We went started with our own concepts, and then combined our ideas for some surprises; taking a body here and legs there.

maybe it's just me, but 1,3, and 6 look exactly like Snake Eye's from G.I.Joe
personally i think the very first concept has the most character to him

nice! I think those saw-thread-things are definately the coolest element of your designs! if it were me, I'd go for that one! and build the characters style around the idea of some scary guy who entangles and fights wickedly etc.. :-3
my critique might be just stupid --;; but he doesn't really look very 'ancient'... more like near-future tom clansy stuff.. it'd be cool if cgtalks army really looked its theme :)
in any case good luck!

Nice work, the ribbons dont look tight somehow, maybey chains or somthing stronger...
So you now got one week to model, unwrap, sculpt, normal map, texture, rig and light your character... :)

nice concept. the only this that bothers me is that the character looks too robotic/mechanic and not an organic living human or alien. it might be little too far from our theme. i would suggest exposing some organic areas, may be part of the face or some ares of the arm or torso. just a thought.

whoah, yeah, that's my schedule too.
concept looking cool! do mind though that the middle body is a bit long and/or the shoulders are definately too high up, mind that you've drawn a big, stout collar-armour which makes his shoulder-line look higher than it is.
and the inner thighs are too bulky above the knee.. that muscle on the inside of the thigh actually curves in at the middle of the upper leg and not all the way down above the knee unless that's not muscle but some storage space in the suit. but it looks kind of neat with the cylindrical feel, maybe that's the point.
so anyway make sure you know where the body is in under there or it'll show :)
mtfbwy!

Yes, the dealine is oh so near! And not to mention our regular work week on top of that.

Most of the body is not armour but a padded suit with stitching, if you know what I mean. And have some ideas how to make him look more ancient to fit the theme but I have to do an overpaint first.

Thanks for the feedback! Good points about the legs and proportions. :)

Looking forward to it when you guys finish this. I don't remember alot of names. Did either one of you guys do the open house thing couple weeks ago? I remember couple guys; an artist and a programmer showing some stuff that were pretty cool.
