Been working on a head study in sculpy during my spare time. It's my first time really sculpting and I have been taking my time to develop accurate structure and form.

Hey there, cool to see this kind of thing on the forum. :) Are you using reference for this? If so, can you post it? I also think you might find these references to be useful:

particularly:

The large image of 4 images is an imagemap, so click each part for a bigger view.

Looking forward to your progress. :)

No problem. :) If you plan on doing more work like this, you may want to consider creating a Sketchbook / Anatomy (http://forums.cgsociety.org/forumdisplay.php?f=200) Thread. I could just move this thread and rename it if you like, but it's not necessary. :) For whatever reason, people tend to reply more to Sketchbook threads than threads on the main page of the Anat Forum, heh, don't really know why. :)

No problem, done. :) Let me know if you would like the name changed to Sketchbook Thread of highbred3d, or if you would prefer to use your real name.

Cheers! :)

Thanks everyone for the comments, Roja, it's about 6.5 inches from the very bottom to the top of the head, next one I do I think will be almost life size and in clay.

Here is the reference from 3d.sk

Hi Brad,

Thanks for posting the reference. :) Do you do a lot of digital painting? Any updates on the sculpt? Looking forward to seeing more of your work!

I got to put in a few hours today, played with some hair and tore it out, refined the left cheeks and side of mouth a little and started roughing in the right eye lids and socket. I took this top picture, tho it doesn't show the eye very well, then decided to rip up the right side of the mouth and re block it, pulling it back and trying to get the angle of that jowl. I dont really like the pic, hopefully I will get to attack it more tommorow.

Hi Rebecca! Hope all has been well... it's interesting that you would ask that because I have actually been trying to get away form the computer on my off time... Been oil painting, just studies, nothing finished yet ( rusty ) and working on this sculpture, and will probably start a charcoal cast drawing and oil self portrait soon.

My goal right now is really just to just study traditional principles and technique. It can always transfer over to the computer.

I hope you model that alfalfa hair he has going for him. I like the modelling so far.

Did alot of refining on the right side of the mouth, and cheek shapes... blocked in the left eye, tho Im not sure if I want to rip out the right eye lids and resculpt now to give more volume like the left... or if the left has too much volume... the bony ridge on the top left eye socket seems to have too much volume now that I see the photo

More Angles

hmm... looking at the ref again, maybe the left eye has too much volume.
