Heh, I've been using max for a while not...not really that long but a couple of months. I used max4 when i was in 2k and I installed xp and it didnt work... So im back on max3 (It doesnt really bother me since they do the same thing.... )

Anyways, the question is... I'm not really sure how I would go about creating a mesh of a character. I mean, ive tried straight vertex modeling... Thats a pain in the ass... Is that like the only way to get good looking models? I'm on spring break so I plan to spend every waking moment modeling anyways, I just was wondering if anyone has any ideas on how or where I should start. Thanks in advance...

Well a lot of people say this but thats because it's a good resource. www.planetquake.com/polycount
Theres good modeling tutorials there Theres one in there somewhere about surface tools modeling thats really good. Sorry I dont have the time to dig it up for ya but you'll find something good Im sure.

In modelling terms there is a very fundamental difference between Max 4 and Max 3 and that is the introduction of the editable poly. Whilst you can still do the same things in editable mesh, the ease and speed with which you can work using editable poly along with Mesh Tools and a lot of the other scripts that take advanntage of editable poly may make you think about finding out why Max 4 won't work on XP...did you upgrade the c_dilla licence to the version for XP ??? :)

Hrm actually no... I didnt know where to get the patch... In fact, i just found out about the patch a few weeks ago... I just decided to stick with max3 because it was already installed and working lol... Why change a good thing ;)
Where you get the patch? Discreet.com?

I agree with xynaria, there is alot of difference between 3 & 4, because of editable poly and the incorporation of meshtools with editable poly. Once you realize the potential of this combo, going back to max3 is like sculpting with boxing gloves on!
