Hey everyone! I've been hanging around this forum for a little while and I just thought you guys r00l so much! So much talent. I'm learning a lot just sitting on the sidelines. I thought it was about time that I contributed a little.

Here's a little work in progress I've been working on yesterday and today inbetween projects at work. I've been practicing around with my low-poly/subd skillz in 3dsmax...

What do you guys think? I just decided at this very moment that I'm going to make him into some kind of under water creature, but who knows what's really going to happen with him. :)

Here's a closeup of the eye area:

I'll post more updates soon as I do more with it.

thats a great head model!! ,

but in my opinion you should get rid of those tentacle thingys in his forehead

looks good man! try to avoid triangles when you cut, quad faces smooth much nicer...

I think you should exaggerate the snorkels(?) coming out of his head more if youre gonna go with that...

I really like the close up of the head, especially the areas around the eyes and the brow. Only thing that really catches my eyes are the thing you've pulled out, on the cheeks...it looks it...I would say define it to look more anatomically interesting. May need thickness to the insides of the eyes to give it fleshiness. The wrinkles/folds are well done. Ed--

thanks for the responses so far peeps! they're great.

beej - I agree with you, I'm planning on adding a lot more of those tentacle/feeler/whatever thingys, some will probably be a LOT more exaggerated than others. One thing I'm not sure of - what if a particular area just doesn't look right unless made with a triangle? Because it seems like it's silly to force tiny little polygons into an area when I can just weld the verts and make a triangle instead? Or would it be better to leave those smaller polygons in there (not sure how they'd affect animation)

ed - you're right about adding more flesh around the eyes, so I've gone ahead and done that.

here's a quick update, dont' have much time to work on it today, so I just added the start of a neck and played around with some of the facial features. Any other suggestions?

and I promise, ears are coming soon :D

what's up andrew? Im from chicago as well , at DePaul university studying computer graphics programming and development(which is a concentration of Computer Science). Are you studying 3d anywhere? I hear Columbia has a very nice program, in fact they just opened up a brand new xsi 2.0 lab. Nice model btw.

looks great andrew ..........4 sides are better than 3 when it comes to smoothing(i find 3 sided faces tend to put unwanted creases in)....you might find your 3 sided faces flicker when it comes to animating.then again you might not!

Thanks, _a_. Here's another quick update. I still have a lot more details to add in, and some of the muscles aren't quite right, but there just isn't enough time during breaks at work :) Soon I'll get to the hands and lower body.
