Here's a model, now about 50% done, of a Q35 JumpJet. Nobody seem to do spaceships much anymore, so either I'm being passe as all get out, or I'm about to start a revival...

This is based on an original Lego design by Bram Lambrecht (http://lego.bldesign.org/models/?n=32). Working from Lego originals has an interesting benefit; if you specify one unit in LightWave to be equivalent to a LEgo 1x1 brick, you can keep the proportions perfect.

So far, I have the command section, airlock and passenger module complete (the latter not shown).

Crits welcome, but resources for ship designs and nurnies would be better; I expect that there's a lot of technique I need to acquire to be able to do this sort of thing much faster. These samples represent about three days work, with minimal kit bashing (parts re-use from other objects).

Edited to add: rendered using a spinning light setup, 2 minutes each.

Fun stuff...first thought in my mind was that it looked like something made of Constructs or Legos...

my only comment as for the modeling would be to see about rounding the sharp corners a bit, just a bit, other than that, its great, I love the detail

Very cool, I love this kinda stuff.

Interesting source of inspiration! I can't wait to see more!

Yep, while I wasn't planning to transliterate it (i.e. model the Lego itelf) since I could just bug the creator for an Ldraw file, I elected to stay more-or-less true to the original style, which is in the Space 1999/1970's near-future sci-fi vein.

updates....

much work yet to be done... I have found that as I started getting into detailing the engine section, the detail work on the passenger module (which was done first) is now found wanting.

Still making up my mind on how to detail the wings.

The entire undercarriage needs doing also, including animated landing gear, and of course the yellow zones need to be striped up. So far, there is still no texture work at all on this thing, other than colors; what you see is pure geometry.
