Are you running viewports in max at direct3d, consider a change to opengl. Tbh I'm not sure if max will ignore checking for directx if you startup in opengl. To change you graphics driver:

3dsmax.exe -h

Allows choice of graphics drivers: Heidi, Open GL, Direct3D, and Custom.

3dsmax.exe −vo

Runs 3dsmax in opengl mode.

Btw is the directx a final? When I tried directx 9 I faced the same problems, I ended up with formating my computer. Reading the FAQ @ directx say´: There is no way to unistall directx 9.

I think its the final , I got it from the DIrectX site titled End User Runtime so I guess so.
Im back to Open GL for now however even though I should have some amazing performance with this card Im getting nothing. I think its down ot my CPU and motherboard.

DX9 installs as a system service so the only way to uninstall is to reinstall windows.

I thought, yet, nvidia cards don't support directX9.

do they? :hmm:

neversong> Nvidia "supports" dx9 but from what I have experienced benchmarks results are really bad, dx8.1 works better for me. Isnt dx9 designed to work best with nvidia fx cards?

I'm using gainward ti4400.

also i recommend as a general rule of thumb to wait until the first service pack is released (ie. windows) or a version update on any software you download

I see, egypt.

ok, what I meant was..."nividia doesn't support directX9" was...
when you are using directx9 in Max...nividia cards would crash.

(I think, I heard ATI cards would work with directx9 in Max.)

I'm using ti4600.

all video cards will support the basic direct draw features of DX9, but only the geforce FX and quadro FX nvidia cards support directX9 features in hardware.

ati radeon 9500 and 9700 cards support directX9 features in hardware also.

you can happily install directx9 on any system with any video card, but any features the system uses that are dx9 and not supported in hardware will fall back to software support.

the application you are using must also support the directx standard. DX9 will have absolutely no effect on 3dsmax due to the fact that it was written using dx8 function calls. DX8 is a subset of DX9 (like 7 is of 8, etc), so again DX9 will have no effect on Max.
