View Full Version : Clouds
aydinu 03-03-2003, 10:27 AM I'm using afterburn to create stormy clouds in Max 4.2. I made the clouds but I have one problem. How do I setup my clouds so that the the clouds dissappears in the horizon (see attached file)? I'm using a hemisphere and I want to create the clouds like in the picture below.
I don't know if I explained it correct
Thanks

You could use a 2d texture to push it out to the horizon.
Or, lower the hemisphere so the edges are below your camera, then use a "sucker" daemon to make a hole where you camera goes. Like i have in the attached picture.
I also only use one giant partcle, rather than many small ones, seems to render alot faster.

Thanks for your reply and because I'm kind of new to afterburn I don't understand what you mean by using a 'sucker; daemon for making a hole where the camera goes.
I've done the tutorials that are included and haven't figured that out yet. So I would be very happy if you could explain it a bit more
Thanks

A sucker daemon will make a hole, so your clouds will not render where you place the daemon helper.
So for example, you don't wish your camera to be inside a cloud (you wouldn't see anything) you can add a spherical sucker daemon around your camera, no clouds will obscure your view.
You must add a daemon to the afterburner roll-out, just like you add a particle system.
The actual daemon helper is found in the "helper" folder, on the command panel.
