Hi There,

I have 3 layers in my comp 1. backdrop 2. flying F14 aircraft 3. particles(black background, white particles). I need to use the particles layer to blur the backdrop and aircraft layer in the areas where the particles is white.

How would I do this?
I just opened after effects for the first time, so i have no knowledge of the program and how to use it.

If there is a tutorial out there somewhere can someone please point me to it.

Would appreciate any help.

if i understand you corectly, you can try to use Lens Blur effect that comes with AE7. you can choose a grayscale layer that where black=no blur, white=blur. you can adjust all the parameters, and also invert the blur/no blur action.

you may also want to try a turbulent displacement on the backdrop and F14 using the particles the same way you did when bluring. this way you'll create a "heat blast" from the f14 engines.

i hope that helps.
