PaulHellard 03-08-2007, 05:24 AM Hi all,
CGSociety was asked along to observe 'Babylon 5: The Lost Tales' be resurrected into series production. Right from the scripting stages, we show the procedures of scripting, blocking, set design and story boarding. CGSociety will follow along as the production steps up into CG.

Wow Bruce really got old. Looks like a good ol' Technomage left to him. I wonder if it is the same as in Crusade

FINALLY! I have been hoping they would make some more B5 shows for years. To me, that is still the best sci-fi TV series ever made. I cannot wait to see it.

It has been what, almost 10 years since the series ended, but he looked pretty much like that by the end of the run anyways. And that looks to be Peter Woodward, the actor who played Galen in the Crusade series. (Thank you IMDB!)

Next to winning the lottery this has be some really good news. I think Bruce has aged well, need to find out what his secret is. I do hope they can get the original cast back together there was a certain chemestry. For any newbies out there B5 did more for CG than most other series, most of the models were done in Lightwave. I can't wait to see how this will turn out.

...The team searched the extensive databases of information the fans had collected. Dozens of recreations of ship meshes in high resolution were pulled and sent to Atmosphere for reference...
..."We created the show initially, then the fans created their version, then we had to go to the fans to make the show again. Full circle.
Ironic indeed. Whoever did those meshes must be mighty proud, if they knew :applause:

They can't since at least one of them has died by now. (The doctor) and I am not sure I think but I remember reading that another one has died by now as well and that does not include our best friend PSI-Cop Bester.

That would be Andreas "G'kar" Katsulas.
Andreas Katsulas (G'Kar) passed on last year.
Richard Biggs (Dr. Stephen Franklin) died a few years ago.
Both important characters, and I think that w/o G'Kar, I am afraid I won't enjoy it much... but perhaps they'll manage something that they couldn't do with Crusade.

this is trully a great loss i was not aware of this sad news, Andreas Katsulas (G'Kar) was a brilliant man, i remember his best lines in the show! it was an inspiration to me. also Richard Biggs (Dr. Stephen Franklin) was a fine man too. both good gentlemen! though i'm puzzled of how did Richard died. the show must go on and i hope they pot good words for them to commemorate the old comrades who r no longer with the family.

I think it was a stroke. Truly sad news, and I agree with JDex - without G'kar, I can't see myself getting into it as much.

yes, that is most definitely a technomage, and you are correct that is indeed Peter W., who starred as Galen in Crusade.
Not might be, not looks like, not could be.......IT IS...............

This is great. B5 was a major inspiration in the CG world for me also. If I remember, it was the first TV series to make extensive use of CG, on time and under budget or so went the old Video Toaster User ads.
Still using Lightwave too, thats nice to hear.

According to IMDB, Biggs died of an aortic tear. Not being up on medical nomenclature, I am not sure what that means exactly.
JMS's comment about Biggs death says alot about him as a person. The comment about losing interest in the show when the man died was really cool.

Don't hold your breath, there is still some very bad blood between the producers including JMS for Claudia with the way she left.

Very cool stuff! It will be very interesting to see how much better the fx will look(if thats even possible) with many advancements since the original show was made. I believe they used Lightwave for all the 3D stuff in the original from modeling to rendering. In those days one program was your pipeline. :)

God I remember when B5 came on the air when I was 9 years old. By the time Season 3 aired I was obsessed. If there was ever a project I'd love to work on, it would be this. Especially the CG models done for the Vorlons and Shadows. Those were truly amazing to see on TV.

This show was the reason I started doing CG. I am glad that they come now with some new stuff.
I really hope after all these years and with different people they still get the scales of the ships right and don't let ships fly backwards. And I hope they don't come up with an ugly ship like the Valen in B5LR.

aortic tear.
Basically he died from massive and sudden internal bleeding. Death is almost instant. I believe the "three's company" actor, can't remember his name, also died this way. Usually you are at risk if your family has a history of heart disease or you eat unhealthly. Eating properly and exercise is the best defense against such problems, but sometimes bad genetics can still cause you grief.

Oh, I wondered why she wasn't in the last season..
If that's the case they should have killed her off instead of Marcus. I was so mad he died, he was a really funny, cool character :)

this is fantastic news...i'm currently re watching B5 ondvd as i work with lightwave on some freelance work...i always wanted to get into 3d and Babylon 5 plus lightwave was amazing ship designs and space scenes.
BTW is this show a mini serise or a full on serise?..
how many episodes has been green lit?
T.S. Cosky

Well its just the one dvd with 2 episodes on it for now, but JMS says he plans to make many more if it all goes well.
The plan is essentially to create a number of episodes that fill in a number of "Lost tales" or gaps in the story.
So ultimately if things go really well, then we can expect to see events and stories we only wondered about. So getting to learn more about people such as Galen, Lenier, Bestor, the son of sheridan, Valen etc... will be a good possibility.
I'm a bit worried though as "legend of the rangers" and "crusade" failed miserably, though not because of JMS.

That is one of the reasons I like the space-scenes. The ships behaving with little more realism. They are in space after all... :)

don't let ships fly backwards.
Why not? Being able to fly in any direction in space is not only realistic, it can be a tactical advantage in space combat.

One of the great things about high technology, futuristic sci-fi, is you can say the technology of the age covers the indescrepancies in physics :D

No, that's not what he was getting at. In the Legend of the Rangers: To Live And Die In Starlight, there is a scene in the city of Tuzanor (I think), Minbar where all Nial fighters are flying backwards in the atmosphere.

On a more lighthearted tone... Has anyone seen the fanfilm of StarTrek and Babylon 5? Instead of going dead serious they made alot of fun of both shows. :)
Read about it and find the trailer here: http://www.starwreck.com/
The movie can be downloaded here: http://video.starwreck.com/star_wreck_itp.php
I watched it and was pretty impressed with the VFX-shots and I laughed many times! :)
