Hello

I would want to insert 3D particles (smoke,fire...) in my photographs and being able to simulate an interaction with it (some smoke around an arm for example...).

There is some "photoshop-only" tutorials for this but 3D software seems to give so much better and realistic results.

I am proficient at PS but know very little bout 3D

Do you have any resources to point me at ??

Thanks in advance...

3D particle systems are time consuming and difficult to use. especially when you're looking for speciofic results. I'd recommend Wondertouch Particle Illusion instead. Its a 2D particle generator that is far more intuitive and will also save our still frames with Alpha channels if you like.

You can begin with Blender, which is free: http://www.blender.org
In this page you will find some tutorials on particles: http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Manual/Particles

have fun
