Okay lets see here -
I think one of the first things you might want to try is to curve the nose a bit more - the front of it seems a bit flat. The top of the nose doesn't run smoothly into the forehead either- this shouldn't be a difficult change to make but it will get rid of that weird lump that she appears to have. The top of the head is also a bit small - if you look at Leonardo Da Vinci's canon for the ideal human head the eyes should be about half way down - it might sound a bit weird but try expanding the head upward and see what you make of it. The chin seems slightly pointy too although this might just be a look you're going for.
Best of luck with it! :)

Could you perhaps post a wireframe?
It would make it a lot easier to spot where the problems lie.

OK well, i did some more work on this thing... this is a lower polly version, about half the polys of the last version so its noticably not as smooth.. I put on ears and cleaned it up quite a bit... thanks for all your guys suggestionsPlease tell me what you think of the new version. I am having trouble with snapshots so i cant post a wireframe yet, but i will asap. I do believe the eyes are still a little high, i may change that

I've never actually tried to do a wireframe render in maya...
There should be a plugin or mel script on www.highend3d.com though that will allow you to do this..
There are some obvious problems with your model related to the general shape of his skull.. the back of the head should come out much further.. maybe look at a few reference pictures?

Hi Backstabbeth
He's coming along - well done for putting on ears - I hate ears.
I think I can now see what was concerning me about the nose better now, it seems a bit too narrow - the base of the nose should be about the width of the space between the eyes and the nose itself should taper down gently to this point. Your nose seems a little too sharp.
From the top three-quarters view, it looks like you've got a bump right at the top of the nose at the same height as the brow ridge. If you look at a cross-section of the human head, the whole of the front of the head should be curving round as one single curve with no bumps in it.
And as Carina said, try checking out some pics of the human skull for better dimensions you need to extend the head upwards - the eyes should be around the centre line, and also backwards a bit too. Experiment with it!

so the crown of the head should be higher?... The first model i posted here the head was a little to high, so i took it down some.. I will work out the bridge of the nose and see how it looks. and you're saying i should bring the back of the skull out more? so the overall skull is wider? I'll give that a shot and repost. You're guys help is invaluble to me... there are TONS of things i will do different on my next model. This being a first attempt has been a massive learning experience for me. This community, in that sense, is a blessing to an aspiring artist. Can you all recommend anatomy books that have helped you?

will post new version asap.

Hi Backsabbeth:
The most important thing to modelling heads is observation. The skull is a funny shaped beastie. There are a couple of useful resources on the web if you're looking for proportions of the human head:
http://www.vjo.it/044/beauty.htm
http://www.vjo.it/051/beauty2.htm
http://www.vjo.it/052/beauty3.htm
These are averages for what people consider to be beautiful. Forget all the technical mumbo jumbo unless you have a particular need to learn about craniofacial anthropometry, just look at the diagrams as to how the sections of the face are split up.
If you can find some police mugshots as well (haven't found a good website for that) then those are perfect for front and side views of the same person so you can look at the proportions from there.
The main resource I would say for an artist is probably Burne Hogarth's book "Drawing the Human Head". I'm sure there are others out there but this one just keeps cropping up.
Gray's anatomy is always useful, but its a big thick book and why bother buying it when there's an online version:
http://education.yahoo.com/reference/gray/
Not for the squemish, but my last link is for cross-sections of the human head - just so you know what it looks like if its been through a cheese slicer

Image planes my friend...that is what you need. She looks horribly like a man. Study, study, study...do your research. It helps...
