View Full Version : z brush quick question
cresshead 03-07-2007, 05:17 PM hi
i've just ordered z brush and have a quick question that most users should know the
answer to hopefully..
can you move installs of z brush?
i'll be getting zb2.0 and will install it on my acer laptop but will want to move it to
an apple mac running xp once apple release their next imac's...is this simple to do?
...i'd probably be installing zb3 by the time i get the new imac [running xp via bootcamp]
thanks in advance!

Hey Cress-
If I understand your question right it shoudln't be a problem as it's not tied down to one CPU or any of that madness. As far as I know it doesn't quite float like LW since there is no dongle- so it would be an install-deinstall kind of setup. Maybe that's all going to change with zb 3 though.
Does that answer your question?

yeah so it looks like you de authorise it on one pc then re authorise it on another yeah?
so i can transfer my install from a acer laptop to a imac running windows xp....maybe it works similar to 3dsmax where you make a trasferable software key.
No need to deactivate... I think pixologic allows you to run it on 2 machines at least. I use my copy both at work and at home. I think the limitation is only per OS... so you can't use it on windows AND OSX.

it would be sooo awesome if they allowed this flexibility, like luxology with modo. i love the fact that if i need to reinstall windows, or install it on both osx and windows ( macbook pro anyone? ) i can. with zbrush it is not so, unfortunately. i understand that they want to make sure that people buy the product and dont cheat them out of money, but pirates will get around ANY form of protection. they treat it as a project and always get it working within a given timeframe. i know this gets said over and over, but its the customers that have to put up with the bs more so than pirates. i remember talking to a friend a while ago, and while i know i shouldnt mention cracking software on cgtalk, he said that his job bought licenses for software, but the IT guys felt that installing a hacked license was a lesser pain in the butt, so they stuck with that. the software company got their money, and the IT guys had an easier job. it becomes even a larger pain in the butt at larger companies that have software licenses moved around. like for example, currently at my workplace we are constantly sharing mental ray licenses, and maya licenses, and houdini, between facilities in toronto, montreal, and vancouver. if one of our studios needs zbrush for a job, we cant lend it to them, because we would need to get a new pop code for them. or in my case, i have two machines that i have zbrush installed on. now, what if another artist needs zbrush in the facility.. the company wont buy everyone zbrush, or dedicate a machine to only zb. they just want people to open it at their desk when the need arises.
sorry for the rant, but i felt like venting. we went through this quite a few times. one of my co workers always wanted to learn zb, but we didnt have time to install it on his machine because it was already locked to a few "busy" machines ( with tasks other than zb ). so in the end he never got to learn it.

But can you install it on two machines?
Don't you have a new forum to attend to? See you back here in May.

You can always tell when a fanboy has been burned :(
For the record, I still enjoy ZBrush.. Just pointing out that Mudbox has a floating license option.
