Hey all, I have recently completed work on this animation for a friend. This little guy is named Tofu. He's been a side project of mine for about 2 months now. Animation was hand keyed using character studio. The clip is at around 6.5 megs and about 26 seconds long. I sincerely hope you all enjoy.

wow, thanks guys! I'm humbled that you are all enjoying it so much. I appreciate you all taking the time to let me know.

Proton could explain the tofu aspect better than I, but in short, it's his brains, which is why he's vegan. Once he looses his mind, he becomes a normal zombie again. I wanted to keep him in character, but still convey that he's lost his mind.

"Tofu" is a friendly zombie, created from a botched experiment in Professor Vost's laboratory. Monkey # 5, one of Vost's lab animals, stuffed a block of tofu into the zombie boy's open skull after accidentally losing the brain. As a result, "Tofu" eats only vegetables and grains and has no taste for human meat. However, if "Tofu" ever loses his "tofu-brain", he turns into a dangerous zombie creature, craving human flesh.

Professor Vost's sole mission in life is to find a cure for the menacing zombie epidemic plaguing mankind. Vost believes the zombie pathogen to be viral, caused by the genetic manipulation of meat products. The Evil Mallesteros, owner of the world's largest meat packing company, wants to shut down Professor Vost's research because sales from meat are beginning to suffer due to Vost's conclusive findings.

"Tofu" is able to walk among both the human and zombie world with safety and ease, however, he is never fully trusted or accepted by either group. The professor's daughter Addie helps "Tofu" blend into the human world by bringing him along with Lab Monkey #5 for fun and adventures. However, Lab Monkey #5's mischievous, playful nature always gets "Tofu" and Addie into trouble.

Because of his unique ability to intermingle in both worlds, and his harmless vegetarian nature, the professor believes "Tofu" to be the key in solving the Zombie epidemic. The question is; will he have enough time to find a cure….

This completely caught me offguard. I had no idea what to expect. Brilliant animation as well as the strangest concept I've seen in a while.

Thanks guys! I'm really glad you like! :) And I appreciate you taking the time to let me know.

As a side note, this past Saturday I added an updated sound track for those who haven't seen it recently. The super tallented Brian Pamintuan (sound pro here at Monolith) got a hold of my attempt at sound and showed me how it should be done. I overwrote the file on my site, so same link will work.

Ive got a question. Is this really not mocap? No offense intended ofcourse.
however Ive never seen anything like this. Things feel strange in a mocappy sort of way.
Im sure its tricky to achieve a mocappy feel with keyframe animation.

Nobody else seems to be bother by this. Ive watched the curves, poses. Its quite layered. and the feet act a bit more funky then i`d expect. Then again the choreography is exceptional as it is which might take some account on how things move. Im puzzled.

I'm flattered, not offended! Thank you! :) I use mocap at work on our games. Not all the time, but often enough for me to get very used to disecting physical motion. I'm sure that exposure has left an impact on my animation style, but I assure you, this was all hand-keyed. No mocap, no rotoscope. I referenced MJ's dance heavily, so I could capture the feel and complexity of his moves, but I put my own spin on it, and gave it a more exagerated feel.

Excellent work! The weight and bounce of the feet really sells the animation. You can tell instantly that you've had a lot of experience with the way a real body reacts to force. Some of the overlap and bouncing would be very difficult to achieve for someone who hasn't really studied how we move.

Great stuff.
