thats not a bad model at all. you going to add a door though? I believe its missing :p Add a liitle transparany to the windows, otherwise it looks a bit like legos. All in all its a well modedled object don't get down on yourself  Oh and I'm now car guy but isn't there supposed to be something connecting all the wheels? ;)

Are you really going to do a Transformers transformation sequence? That would be way cool!

It's Optimus Prime!

I think... haven't seen Transformers in ages.

Anyway, if you're really going for a realistic looking truck, and not just a toy, you have to learn what the difference is between the two. It basically just comes down to details. Toys always lack the miniscule details of the real thing, which is what makes your model look like a toy right now.

It's always the the unnoticable details that make a model realistic.

But that's why it's in the WIP section. Im IN the PROCESS of WORKing to add the details. Right now I'm working on a better temporary shader for the paint, later I'll create a custom texture map for it, hopefully.

Next update will include a few more details on the front, and the beginning of larger details on the side.

The goal IS a transformable version, hopefully animated.

I'm still learning a lot as I go along, so any helpful input is welcomed, just make sure it's constructive.

Thanks,
Sledge

So far, so good. Though thats not saying too much because there's not much to see yet. I'm intrigued, if you can pull off making a transformable Optimus Prime, you get my vote of geniusness. Good luck, I look forward to updates.

Well, it is a big challenge. Beyond me right now. So, if I manage to do it, it'll mean I've learned a lot in the process.

Unfortunately, the cartoons' transformed versions aren't realistic at all. Especially the new cartoons, which I've only seen screen caps of (Prime's windows are hexagonal in robot mode, but square in *?!?!?!?FIRETRUCK!?!?!?* mode). The old cartoon is the best by far.

SO... I'm kinding processing how I'm going to do this in my mind based on the toys, which actually transformed. However, I'm working from memories of the Optimus Prime I received at Chuck E. Cheese's on one of my childhood birthdays (of course it broke on the way home from Chuck's as I played with it in the back of my parents' van -- stupid legs!).

The toys didn't look that great in robot mode, however. Right now, my idea is to build an OK looking truck, then cut it to pieces and pose it like a robot. Then add the robot parts, make adjustments to make it look good as a robot, and then try to fit it back into the truck shape. We'll see.

I've always thought they should just continue the old cartoon story with CG characters instead of all this beast warz carp and whatnot.

Agreed. But my feelings on the Beast Warz thing is that it may have been done out of necessity. Or maybe marketing thought it would be a genius idea. Have you thought of buying a new version of Optimus Prime or did you say you had the actual original Optimus Prime. I'm unsure if you would really learn as much as you could out of doing this as an exercise? Anyways a friend tossed me a cool tutorial which might inspire you, or give you some modeling ideas: http://www.munkmotion.com/tutorials/nsx/1a.htm
