Hi.
I'm getting slightly mad
I'm using 3D Studio MAX 4, I've been playing around and made a model, thought that I was going to rig it and see what I can figure out.
BUT, the mesh gets all f-ucked up.

Checkit:

Sorry about the large picture, might take some time to load.

If ANYone can help me out, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance.

btw. I use Bipeds. Can't seem to figure out bones. Will try that to.

Welcome to the world of skinning;)

What you've got there looks like really bad weighting on several verts. Since you're using CS rather than your own bone rig, I'll just assume you're using Physique to skin with. Unfortunately, I can offer little help since I've never used Physique. But I will tell you that most of that horrible mess you're seeing can be fixed up with a healthy dose of patience and an understanding of the ins and outs of vertex weighting. Hopefully someone with some knowledge of CS will chime in and offer up some more substantial help:)

:D
weeell, I got enough irritated to start the rigging over with a nice "skin" mod. and some bones instead ;) Now I've only got one mystery to resolve. But when I'm through that, this'll look preeeeeeeetty tight ;)
thanks anyway man, and if you've got any questions about how to sodomize a cat, well, you know the man to ask *LOL*
Just kidding, you know :)

Take care.

CS/Physique requires not only envelope adjustments but also joint creasing and inner and outer skin/link tensions etc,..

Don't make the same mistake I did way back in CS r1,.. my problem was I tried jumping right into hi density models, the feedback was so slow I did not really learn much.

Now that my system is much faster and CS has been improved I can deal with high poly models, but it sure helps to have quick feedback when adjusting the envelopes and links, and that is why I suggest learning most of the basics on low/med density meshes or even using a light version of your final character.

Turning off links influence(s) and setting up vertex assignments should have your character smoothed out without much frustration if you have a fast system and have RTFM.

If you really have trouble I can tweak the file in max 3.1 CS 3.

Ls3D - I'm running at superspeed ;) or at least 1200 mHZ and over 500 megs DDR Ram. I wont succumb in the first two tries. By the way, I got to mad at the Bipeds so I began trying out the bones in 3DSMax4 and a skinmodifier. So, I'm allright. Atleast for now ;) You never know what the future holds.
Thanks for the tips, I'll certainly try out everything on a safe copy and lowpoly ;)

Take care.
