This is a Unreal 2003 Mod level I'm working on. Focusing on getting all the main rooms/areas in and testing for any problems... 3 more rooms and outside area left, then onto the smaller stuff.

The outside looks like a glacier, while the inside is like a temple with Roman and Egyptian architecture.

Level should be completed by the end of the Month.

I had to fix the spiral room since I made this image. Found out it was impossible to get up by jumping. The 2 halls and Boss Room (one with big column in the middle of it) are fine.

About 12,500 polys right now. No floors since those will be made in the Unreal Editor.

Level will be used in my portfolio for Level/Game Designer job. I have a paper map of level/gameplay is anyone if interested in seeing that.

Hmmm... to be honest, just from the screen shots, this level looks very plain and boring. Im not sure exactly what type of look you are aiming for, but the design is about as simple as you can get (square room, circular room, square room, etc).

I think you did an excelent job on the detail of the dome in the center, and im sure you will add more detail to the other rooms, but as far as layout goes, I think it could use some work.

I dont know if it will conflict with your story or what not, but try mixing the rooms up a bit, make some rooms smaller then the other ones. Maybe instead of the rooms being in a straight line, try having the two rooms connected to the center bend, sorta like forming a V or '-, shape, so they jut out of the center in different directions

You could try having the rooms at different heights too, like the two square rooms about 8 feet higher then the center or vice versa, and have the rooms connected by some stairs.

Try to aviod repitition as much as possible. In all the best levels out there, design wise, every room in them is different and new. They never use the same geometry more then a few times (unless its decoration objects) other wise the level is boring and stale. You want to try to simulate chaos as much as possible, because our minds dont like repitition. Chaos and unexpected = Fun and exciting.

Instead of having all the pillars perfectly the same, maybe have some with cracks in them or chunks taken out of them. Im not sure, but if the center room is just a dome to the outside, maybe have a hole in it or something and have light sine thru with light rays or what not. That is of course if you are going for the old decayed look.

I know this is just a work in progress. Im just throwing in my 2 cents. If you want to see some of the best designed user maps out there, vist CliffyB's (lead designer of the unreal series) home page:

http://www.planetunreal.com/cliffyb/

He reviews user maps and posts the best maps he finds. They are really good, and you should check it out. You should post more pics too, so we can get a better idea of the layout.

Dr. Evil - I thought they were going to make a Mac version of it, not sure though.
Wu - It'll be a while before its lookin pretty in game.
AtrusDni - Thank you for the good crits and comments.

I failed to mention this is a single player MOD, if that has any impact on how people will crit it. Those 4 rooms are the only square/circle ones in the plan, the rest are organic/cave like (except the santa's house. Not sure how that'll look yet).

Found the cleaned up Floor Plan of the Level (250kb). (http://members.cox.net/neonautica/Glacier_Level_v2.jpg) Sacrificed some image quailty for a lower file size. If the link doesn't work, I ran out of bandwidth for my site that day. The map really doesn't mention the elevation differences of each room.

I'm currently working on the boss who will be imprisoned in the big pillar in the dome room. Right now I'm thinking of it being a Black Winged Angel. Drawing some sketches and will start modeling it soon.

Cool, the floorplan looks really neat and thought out. I would like to see more WIP screens as you make them.

Dark_Lotus: Using 3D Max 5

Started working on the Exterior. After the main shape is finished being tweaked will add in the caves, ledges, etc. Wish I had more time to work on it today, but must do other work first.

Progress is slower than expected, but it will be finished... sometime...

Added the ramps and tunnels on the southern side of the glacier, added the exit from the spiral room to the side of the glacier, started the 3 cave-like inner rooms (no renders since its nothing interesting to look at yet)...

I'm just hoping to get all the modeling done by the end of the month... Should have images of the Boss up on Monday night (2d and 3d)...
