im having trouble adjusting to wings from lw.
how does one subdivide the cube?
what is the equivalent of the knife tool?

There is no knife tool. Just select the edge hit G and than C.

You can hit Shift + Tab to switch back and forth between smooth and regular view.

or you can select the model and hit S to subdivide.

Hope this helps.

I too am a confused noob. My question: How do I take a picture that I can post here of a model I made?

-Also, why is the 'smoothed preview' so much better looking than the render? :curious:

(yeah, I downloaded Wings3D :p )

What do you mean>? , you mean how to save a render?

I never rendered with the Wings open gl renderer so i dont know how the whole thing works , but i took my wings models to maya and xsi and they rendered without a flaw.

Glad you downloaded wings , its pretty much all you need , also DL Blender ( www.blender.org) you can animate\render your wings models with it. Its also free.

So I should get DL Blender to render it then? When I render in Wings it looks horrible.

(I'm not stopping with Wings 3D, not by a long shot. :D )

Wings doesnt have a renderer in the first place so dont confuse that render -> open GL with a renderer ;)

how did u take ur models to xsi? does it work with exp 3?

i saw the maya importer at edharriss.com but i assume it wont work with exp 3.

Hmm... well that explains things. There is so much I have yet to learn in these programs. (Wings 3D = one down, more to go :D)

(My first model is coming along slowly, but it's getting there. It began as a practice model of Conker from Conker's Bad Fur Day, game, and became what resembles a panda bear's face. I'm having trouble with the mouth unfortunatly :annoyed:.)

Export as OBJ and Import from XSI (under File -> import ->OBJ)

It works with EXP just fine.

extrude region should do the job if im understanding
you will need to clean out the geometry a little afterwards

cheers

Blender is a bit overwhelming at a glance. How do I import a wings3D model to blender so that I can render it?

Wings supports quite a few external renderers including Povray, Yafray and the Renderman compliant renderers -- of these the povray renderer is the most complete with the Renderman being very buggy at the moment.

there is a obj impoty script
look for the one updated by chris wants
he made some changes to support wings obj files

So with these renderers, povray for example, you would go to file> and import the wings file? I haven't downloaded it yet and would like to know a little more about it. I literally don't know anything about renderers (except that it smooths out your image?). Can you help me (instructions maybe...)?

I sound like I've never touched a computer, even though I'm on one constantly at home.
