Interesting. It has some nice effects like the bubbles and the eye smoke, but otherwise it was a little boring. Is there suposed to be a story other than robot head in space gets powersupply brain and 'activates'???

Very clean render work though, I like the use of outlines

But what does it all mean!!

Cool effects:D

What are the plans for other chapters, is there a plot?

dude.

can't you tell what it's about?

it's about the ecstacy one feels after fornication. that's what all the lights are about! :p

but seriously...there are some nice effects (primarily the volumetric and lense effects...)

but for the most part i felt like it was boring and not really thought out.

i guess i just wanted a "real" reason to watch it...and that was missing for me.

good luck though.

Great to see people are checking it out.

Thanks for the compliments!

I agree that the plot is missing, because there is no plot ... yet. It's all pure eye candy and music. But, this is Chapter1. The plot is roughed out in some notepads and sketchbooks. Still thinking on it.

The original intention of this movie was simply a logo animation. I storyboard-ed it out and got to work. I planned on only taking a month or so (after-hours) to finish it. Then over time, I thought, "It'd be cool to add this." and "I need some filler footage here." It just ballooned and turned into what you just watched.

But, this is an installment kinda thing. You're just supposed to tap your foot and like what you see. The next chapter will actually have some purpose. I promise. :)

Why does everyone throw in the sexual comment? :p

Nice :D
Did you use AfterEffects or something like that for some of the effects?
I hope you will let us know when the next part is ready :)

Nope. No post-processing. It's all Lightwave.

I brought everything together and transitioned using Aura 2. I think I'm gonna use AfterEffects for the next one, though. Still not sure if I like Aura or not. It's a love/hate thing.

Tunes were created in Acid Pro 3.0.

Whoe! That makes it that much more impressive... technically anyway :) AfterEffects will usually save quite a bit of time, unless the effects are difficult to blend with the 3d environment. It really helps to be able to do it all in 3D though.

I hear you need about 2gigs of ram if you are going to use Aura for serious video work! That kinda scared me away when I was thinking of getting it. Is "painting" the main thing that it has and AE doesn't? Any specifics that you love/hate about it?
Thanks for the info!

Yeah you definately need 2 gigs of ram. I wish I had at least 1. Only running 512MB at the moment and it got painful towards the end of this project.

The love/hate thing is that Aura brings the entire project into memory when you load it. All of it. Every single frame. So, it's quick to get around, but when you start running out of RAM things start to bog down. It's a slick program, but feels old-school.

Also, everything that you do feels so permanent when you're working in it. Text is merged into the frame that you place it in. It's not a floating object, it becomes part of the background layer. Basically each video layer is it's own canvas. When you run effects, they are permanently applied into the range of frames that you have selected. If I decide later that I need to tweek a transition, I have to reload the sequence, re-transition, and delete the old. Anyway, that's the best I can explain it.

But, I have a feeling I'm using it for more than it is intended. I edited that entire 2-minute, near-broadcast quality, 3D-animation and output it to a 1.5GB lossless Quicktime file on a machine with only half a gig of RAM.

I think it's more intended for bringing in individual sequences for effects post and then outputting them to be brought into your non-linear system for editing.

The brushes are just ok. Very basic.

Hope this helps.

Yeah. That does help.
The way it works with layers sounds like a big turn-off :(
And I only have 512ram myself. But I am shopping for a new system now.
Guess I will stick with just AE for a while longer.

Thanks and good luck on part 2 :)
