View Full Version : Maxscript to Hilight objects

Hi all,

We do a lot of animations where we need to hilight objects. Currently we use a blend material to do this but it is really a pain to assign specific materials to every object or group of objects that need to be highlighted. What I'm wondering is if it would be feasible to write a maxscript to override a material with a highlight color without messing with the materials themselves. Theoretically it would maybe work much like the visibility track. Probably wouldn't need to actually fade from material to material since that could easily be done in post.

Any ideas,
Rod

Hey Light,

Wow thanks for the quick response. Been playing around with your layer manager but I'm not quite sure it's what I'm after. Is it possible to dynamically change materials to a hilight material during render. Maybe an example with help. Say you have an engine and you need to hilight the camshaft, pistons, and spark plugs and then return them to their original materials. Currently we do it with a blend material but if you have a hundred parts all with individual materials this can get tedius in a hurry. It also doesn't help that you can't see the blend in the viewport during setup but thats another problem.

Thanks,
Rod
