Hello all
This is my very first painting in photoshop, I used to do cellshading only untill I got me a tablet :D
Please dont let me being an newbie on this board keep you from giving me some advice.

tricky making the jump from line art to paint ;)

i think you have the right idea, working in monochrome first...watch your light sources, the lighting on her face and shoulder don't match up. the hair in front could've used more purple than black, because of perspective. keep trying!

I second snowfly's advice...

If you didnt have lineart to work off i suggest doing a quick composition sketch before you start painting cause that will help with anatomy and keep the flows of the hair in check...
